Propagation of Tradescantia Zebrina

This specimen greeted us when we moved to Palm Coast. Although it was surviving, it would get burnt back during the summer, then struggle back to life during the winter.

It’s easy to propagate so we mixed it in along with other plants, but it tends to get scrawny and fall apart.

I bathe the cuttings in Clonex and wrap them in a misted paper towel for a few hours…

…then planting.

  • use a chopstick to create room for cutting in pot
  • use a spoon to fill cavity and fingers to lightly tamp soil
  • insure leaves of cutting are aligned with other plants in pot
  • insure stalk is erect

This technique will yield excellent propagation rates with many different plants.
